CNN commercials cause Safari to go black, not Chrome.

For a few macOS versions now and several Safari updates, I have been unable to figure out why streaming CNN causes Safari to go black, particularly after a commercial break. I can still hear the audio though. I have to use Chrome solely to stream CNN and use Safari for everything else which is a bit annoying.

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I'd really like to get a definitive solution.

I am currently on macOS 12.6.1 (Monterey) and Safari version 16.1 (17614.2.9.1.13, 17614)

The Auto-Play feature seems to be working. I've had CNN running for 30 minutes and there hasn't been any issues. When CNN returns from a commercial there's a brief frame or three where you can see the circularly play button, but I believe the Auto-Play feature is forcing it to play. I am goin to see if this is consistent on my laptop and iMac.

Thank you.
