"Unsupported video format"

Hey Apple .. how is it that, when I open videos from my iPhone 13 Pro Max on my MacBook Pro running Monterey, I get the message "Unsupported video format". If YOUR latest software doesn't support the video from one of your latest phones, WHY NOT!!!!!!!
