I'm happy that it worked for you. sometimes skipping macOSes can go sideways, but not always. :)

My iMac, a 2017, 21 1/2", started and stopped several times during the update. I just left it alone. There were several times the screen went totally blank for a while then came back on showing the Apple logo and a bar indicating it was still working.

yes, that is normal while upgrading.

It seems slower than it was, but is slowly speeding up. Keeping my fingers crossed...

I think it will continue to get quicker over the next couple of days until spotlight finishes reindexing itself.
