Bad Apple Continuity camera quality

Finally, after rebooting several times my MacBook Pro M1 and my iPhone 11 and figuring out the correct combination of settings (come on, Apple, you can improve this setup), I managed to use my iPhone as my Mac camera and it look great!

But after 2 weeks, suddenly, the quality of the image degraded hugely, being pixelated and with tons of noise like old TVs, much much worse than my MacBook camera.

  • I checked the WiFi router and both iPhone and my Mac are connected to same access point using 5 GHz band. Mac uses WiFi AX and iPhone WiFi AC, like first day.
  • I have rebooted both the mac and iPhone.
  • I have tested both with USB cable and wireless.

I ran out of ideas and the quality issue is still here.

Do you have any other idea how to solve this issue?

Hello unaiur,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like the camera and microphone quality have worsened since you've being using it as a webcam with your MacBook Pro, right?

If we have that correct, let's see if we can isolate this to clear it up. For starters, do you have the latest iOS version and macOS version installed? If there are any additional updates available, let's be sure to back up your devices before installing them. Installing the latest software versions on your devices can help ensure that you have the latest security and software fixes, and can typically resolve abnormal behavior that you may experience. Check out the following resources for assistance with either of your devices, and test the results after updating:

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

If you have the latest updates installed already, let's have you test your iPhone camera and microphone without it in use with your MacBook Pro. Record a video to see if the results match what you notice while it's in use with your MacBook Pro. If the iPhone has a problem with the camera or microphone, review the related resources below to see if that can clear this up:

If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working - Apple Support

If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working - Apple Support

Lastly, let's have you check through each of the steps that we've listed below. These have cleared up similar occurrences like what you're experiencing, and you can find the steps here: Continuity Camera: Use iPhone as a webcam for Mac - Apple Support

If Continuity Camera isn't working as expected

• Make sure that your iPhone and Mac meet the system requirements.

• Make sure that your iPhone is properly mounted.

• Install the latest macOS updatesiOS updates, and updates for your video app.

• If you haven't unlocked your iPhone since it last restarted, unlock it, then lock it again.

• Plug your iPhone into your Mac.

• Restart your iPhone or Mac.

Let us know the results after working through those steps, and include any additional details to help us understand more clearly what's happening, along with your steps attempted. We'll use these details to provide a more helpful response.

Take care!
