Where is the little "open book" symbol on the iPhone? I want to clear my cache, and I can't find the symbol.

I'm trying to clear the cache on my iPhone, and the instructions say to "tap [little open book icon] and then to tap "clear." Where is the little book symbol? I don't see it.

I suspect this is what it was. See the following from Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support

  1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
  2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.
  3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

Also note that there is no need or benefit to doing it unless you are experiencing a problem. See the following from that same article:

You should close an app only if it’s unresponsive.

Thanks for your reply. I did finally figure that out for Safari. However, what I am really looking for is something I was shown in the Apple store. The agent did some gesture on the screen that brought forth all the pages and apps I had been consulting recently. Then he swiped them individually off the screen, a swift swipe from bottom to top for each page. I assumed this was emptying the cache, but apparently it is something else. What was this? The pages that he swiped off the phone were just images of everything I had consulted including other apps, not just Safari. Do you know (1) what that stash of pages is called, and (3) how to swipe the screen to bring them up so I can swipe them off the telephone the way he did?
