Two Apple TVs on the same television

The room where we have our television is large. Apple TV doesn't support multiple remotes and I have used the remote app on my iphone but it's not a suitable solution. My question: my television has multiple connections, is it possible to have two Apple TV units in the same room on the same television?

Yes, certainly, on two separate HDMI ports.

@Phil0124: Two or even three ATVs may be preferable when individuals within a household have their own Apps/customizations/viewing suggestions etc.

Seems like an unnecessary expense.

I can understand wanting a separate layout of apps for each users, but a single Apple TV can already provide each user their own viewing suggestions and history. User accounts can be switched at will on an Apple TV at any point. It does not sign anyone off, and can keep viewing history and suggestions separate.
