The room where we have our television is large. Apple TV doesn't support multiple remotes and I have used the remote app on my iphone but it's not a suitable solution. My question: my television has multiple connections, is it possible to have two Apple TV units in the same room on the same television?

Seems like an unnecessary expense.
I can understand wanting a separate layout of apps for each users, but a single Apple TV can already provide each user their own viewing suggestions and history. User accounts can be switched at will on an Apple TV at any point. It does not sign anyone off, and can keep viewing history and suggestions separate.

Yes it can do so but it’s cleaner and less work/hassle with separate boxes. Many prefer their own, untouched views which they can work instantly without changing profiles etc. Re:expense, that’s subjective/depends on usage.
Yes, but why? Why can't the other person use the same Remote exactly?
Why do you need 2 remotes?
I'm sure there's an easier solution to this, than 2 Apple TVs. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
