Iphone X IOS 16.1.2 - the contacts app is stuck on the LISTS function. I can add a list or edit a list, but I can't get off the LISTS screen.
I've closed the app - no luck.
I've powered off and restarted.
I saw a related topic where a solution was to hold the power down button simultaneously with the sleep/wake button and wait for the Apple logo ignoring the slide to power off. I never get the Apple logo.
Any ideas

Whew, I think some are missing the point in this discussion. I just solved this problem for someone else. Do you see the three blue little men icon on the left. Tap there and you will return to your normal contacts listing interface. When you are in the actual contacts be wary of the blue listings word in the upper left. Hitting it takes you into the original conundrum you experienced. Nit very intuitive for sure.

If "All iCloud" appears as one of your lists, click on that and your contacts will be displayed.
I accidentally clicked LISTS in Contacts and can’t get out. Help!
How do I get rid of lists in the upper right corner of iPhone
I keep getting that error also, I just went to the drop down and selected my phone book and it brought up my list. I tried everything like you did in your questions. A very anoying bug.

Reloading the app worked, but make the mistake again and you must reload again.

It is indeed user hostile. It is confusing and does not need to be that way.
I can't access my Contacts because my screen is stuck on Lists. I've done everything the person above has done. Frustrating and stuck for days.
Select “all contacts”
