Cannot facetime one particular person

Suddenly I am unable to facetime my dad in eastern Canada. Had been able to forever including on my new iphone14, but suddenly unable just this week. After attempting to dial him on my MacBookPro I get an instant "Call Failed" message. When trying on my iPhone14 I get an immediate message that reads "Choose Another Phone Number or Email Address to Call Dad". Then a sub-message stating "+1xxx-xxx-xxxx in the contact card is not available for Facetime".

Why ? My brother is able to facetime with our Dad, and I am able to facetime everyone else I have been facetiming with in the past. Only thing we haven't tried is Dad facetiming me, which is the logical next test, however he is not all that sharp when it comes to electronic devices, usually relies on us calling him. Anyone, anyone ...? Oh, btw, no issues reaching him thru his iPhone for basic calls.

Hey Daniel Anderson4,

It looks like you're coming from the article: If you can't make or receive a FaceTime call on your iPhone or iPad

"If you still need help

If none of the above reasons apply to you, and you still can't make or receive FaceTime calls, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that your device has a Wi-Fi connection to the internet or a cellular-data connection.
  2. Learn more if you're using router, firewall, or security software that restricts internet access.
  3. If you're trying to use FaceTime over cellular, make sure that Use Cellular Data is on for FaceTime. Go to Settings and tap Cellular or tap Mobile Data, then turn on FaceTime. If you're using an iPad, you might see Settings > Cellular Data.
  4. Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure that FaceTime is on.
    • If you see "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
    • If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't off in Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.
    • Make sure that you have the correct phone number or email address listed.
  1. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Update your device to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS."

Those would be the best steps to take to attempt to resolve this issue.

If that doesn't help, we'd recommend checking to ensure you have the correct phone number and Apple ID added to his contact card in the contacts app, if a change was made there and the number or email address are no longer accurate, that could cause this issue. You may also want to try deleting and recreating the contact as well to see if that helps.

If those steps don't resolve the issue, we'd recommend contacting Apple Support for further assistance here: Get Support

Thanks!
