Can't move applications to second monitor

I have a second HDI monitor attached to my Macbook. My computer froze and I restarted it. Now it will not allow me to drag any apps to my second monitor. The Display Settings window has four items at the bottom: Add Display, Display Settings, Universal Control, and Night Shift, they are grayed out. In other words, some of my settings seem to be disabled. How do I fix this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.6

Hi there KateMateo,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you're having trouble with a 2nd monitor attached to your MacBook Pro. Is that right?

We suggest restarting your Mac to see if this helps. A restart can help as a great troubleshooting step, as it's not that intrusive.

If the issue continues, start the Mac up into safe mode to see if that helps: Start up your Mac in safe mode

If the issue still persists, you can try a different user account to see if you can get the monitor to work: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

That should help. Let us know how it goes.

Take care.
