erase iPhone has been pending for 8 hours, is that normal, how to complete erasure

My son's iPhone and Apple Watch were stolen. He completed erase iPhone and watch 8 hours ago, however this erasure is still marked as pending. How can we complete or confirm the erasure?

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. Based on the information you've provided, it sounds like your son has put their Apple Watch and iPhone in Lost Mode, and set the devices to be erased remotely, is that correct?


If so, it's possible that the devices may currently be powered off, or the devices are not connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. Once the devices do come back online and connect to a network the process to erase the devices should begin.
