Apple, when would you provide Monterey update to support viewing Canon EOS R6 MKII Raw file?

  1. You're not addressing Apple here, just other users like yourself
  2. If previous behaviour is anything to go by, never. Apple add raw support to the current OS, not older ones
  3. However, given 1., above, previous behaviour is the only guide we have on this. No one outside of Apple knows what plans they have.
  4. Feature requests go here: Product Feedback - Apple

Monterey supports the R6 but not the R6 II model, and Apple does not provide retroactive camera RAW support. As it turns out, at this early date, Ventura does not explicitly show support for the R6 II camera either, but it may in the next several months depending on when Canon updates Apple with the specific camera data.

I just read a DP Review preliminary review of this camera dated Nov 2, 2022 and they indicate that the camera was expected to be released later in Nov 2022. That timeframe makes it impossible for Apple to support it in Ventura for several more months, if then.

Although the Apple's Digital Camera RAW shows no support for the R6 Mk II CR3 in Ventura 13.1, the Finder shows the RAW icon image, Quick Look and Preview do as well.

On Monterey 12.6.2, I can see the CR3 image in a Finder file icon, but neither Quick Look nor Preview will open it. When placed in an arbitrary folder, Adobe DNG converter (v15.0) readily converts the RAW CR3 to DNG with reasonably accurate color.
