How do I remove a word accidentally added to Dictionary?

I need to remove a word I have accidentally added to the Dictionary. If I Control-click on the word, I do not get the 'Unlearn Spelling' option and I do not have a LocalDictionary folder in Library/Spelling. I am using OS Monterey. Any help much appreciated.

Words that are learned appear in that file, which can be found by typing that path into the Finder's Go menu > Go to Folder... field.

It can be edited with any text editor. Just bear in mind various non-Apple programs are capable of maintaining their own spelling dictionaries, in which case you have to research the applicable program documentation to determine how to "unlearn" those entries.

The example shown uses macOS's own built-in dictionary, whose encompassing folder contains these four files:

Word is a separate app and has a separate spelling system than what the system uses.

You will have to perform all of these suggestions in Word. The concept is the same, but different steps to perform.

1) In Word > Preferences, choose Spelling & Grammar.

2) Next to "Custom Dictionaries" click on the "Dictionaries" button

3) Click the "Edit" button

4) If you are prompted to pick an encoding, choose the defaults and click the "OK" button

5) Eventually, the Custom Dictionary will open as a document in Word. Remove then word you accidentally added and save.

Thanks for the link. I think the reply only applies to Pages as far as I can make out. I am using Office 365 word - which I should have made clear but it didn't occur to me until reading the answers you sent. Possibly as a result of this, I don't have the local dictionary in my library which is where everyone is directed to remove the offending word.
