iPhone SE 2nd Generation Home Button and Touch ID not working since iOS 16.1.1 update

Has anyone else out there had an issue with their iPhone's Home Button not working, as well as Touch ID being unable to work, since iOS 16.1.1 update? I own an iPhone SE 2nd Generation, and haven't been able to get either one to work since I updated my iPhone, even the newest update iOS 16.2 doesn't seem to have done anything to remedy my situation.

I've done all of the "suggestions" within Apple's "troubleshooting" tips, and nothing has fixed this issue. It's quite aggravating because, basically, whenever I do/use ANYTHING on my iPhone, and I need to switch to something else on it, whether it’s making a phone call, reading and answering an iMessage or Facebook Messenger message, checking Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest, listening to music, or just playing a video game, I have to turn my phone off, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on again, and manually enter my passcode...because Touch ID is completely inoperable. Which is VERY tedious, time consuming…and most of all…a HUGE thorn in my side.

I just want an iPhone that works, and I shouldn't have to pay ANYTHING to have my iPhone's issues "fixed", or resort to buying a "newer" model of iPhone either. The iPhone that I own, was listed in the "compatible" iPhones list for iOS 16, and my phone SHOULD be "bug-free" just like all of the other, newer iPhones out there right now.

I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions, insight, knowledge, etc. that anyone out there may have, that could possibly help "fix" this VERY "broken" issue/problem that I'm unfortunately having right now.

Hi smbauman66,

Let's resolve your Touch ID issue by completing the steps listed here: If Touch ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support that are also listed below.

"Follow these steps. Try using Touch ID after each step:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
  2. Make sure that your fingers and the Touch ID sensor are clean and dry.* For the Touch ID sensor, use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off any dirt or debris.
  3. Your finger should cover the Touch ID sensor completely, touching the surrounding metal ring. While Touch ID is scanning, you shouldn't tap too quickly or move your finger around.
  4. If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Touch ID sensor or the surrounding ring.
  5. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
  6. Try enrolling a different finger."

Best regards.
