Problem with MacBook Pro and Dell P3222QE monitor

Hi community,

Macbook Pro 13" with M2 chip (mid 2022) and Dell P3222QE external display. Mac has connected to display with USB 3.2 cable and display has hub where is attached keyboard, mouse and external hard drive.

When I start the mac, display wakes and show the deskto but keyboad mouse and external hard drive won't work. I had to unplug the cable and put it back and after that everything wokrs fine.

Is that normal with Dell products or do I have some settings wrong? Maybe Dell display won't speak same language with macs...

Thanks for the help!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.0

Greetings Juice_Designer,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like the USB hub isn't receiving power from the display when the Mac powers on, right?

If we have that correct, check if you turn the display off as that could be related to this occurring with the display. In addition, see if the keyboard and USB hub work after logging in and waiting a few seconds. If that doesn't clear this up, try connecting to a different USB port on the display to see if that one provides better results. We were able to see that this could be expected after turning the display on in the manual for the display you posted, and you can review it here: Dell P3222QE Monitor User’s Guide

If that doesn't help to clear this up, try finding more answers to determine if this should be expected with the display via the support site for Dell. We'll include a link to get you started, here: Support | Dell

We hope that helps.

Have a great day!

Hi Brandon,

and thank you.

I have tried to do every tricks but nothing works. I even tried to change the connection cable which comes with the mac but with this cable the display doesn't even woke up. So the cable which comes with the display works better.

But I found one explanation which may cause the problem: Mac's USB 3.1 Bus when display's manual says: "Check that your computer is USB 3.2 Gen1-capable. " I'm not the specialist with this so I'm not sure does this affect?

But anyway, at the moment the solution is that I don't shutdown mac, only put it in sleep mode. Every time I shutdown or restart mac I have to unplug the cable and put it back to get keyboard and other devices work.

Thanks and have a nice day!
