Convert RAW to JPEG in Mac Photos

If an image was imported to Mac Photos in both RAW and JPEG, is there a way to easily delete the RAW copy only? Also, can Apple RAW be converted to JPEG in the Mac app?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.0

You can set the RAW&JPEG pair to use the JPEG as the original - select all pairs together and go to the Image menu; then use the the command "Use Jpeg as original". You will no longer see the rAW files, unless you switch back to the RAW as Original. Use a RAW file as the original in Photos on Mac - Apple Support

But you can only remove the RAW image component by exporting the Pairs with "File > Export > Export unmodified original".

  • Then delete the RAW&JPEG pairs from the library, also from the Recently deleted folder.
  • Then sort the the exported photos in the Finder by the "Kind" (in list view), and select only the JPEGs for reimporting to Photos. Archive the RAW files on an external volume, just in

The Photos.app on your Mac is compatible with Apple ProRAW (About Apple ProRAW - Apple Support). To convert the Pro RAW files to JPEG, select the images on Photos on your Mac and export them with "File > Export > Export ... Photos": Set "Kind" to JPEG and select the original size and a high quality.

Then reimport the exported JPEGs and delete the Apple ProRAW.
