RAW files export from Photos on Mac

A friend has dumped all RAW and JPG files into photos. Retrieving the RAW ones seems an impossibility.

Previous answers to this question quote, using the export as original command but this does not work for us. Only jpg's are exported.

Do the images have a J in the corner. That means the jpg is used as the original.

Select the images, then choose image>use raw as original (you can select multiple images in one go for this)

You will then be able to export the raw files ussing export unmodified original.

Tony, when I use "File > Export > Export unmodified original", it is always exporting both original files, the JPEG & the RAW, independent of the "Use Raw as original" or "Use JPEG as original".

If only a JPEG is exported, it looks like the edited versions have been exported, not the originals, or the RAW file is missing because of a damaged library.

Gnarleyeh, do you remember anything, that may have damaged the library? Has Photos been crashing, or have you been using a program to remove duplicates? Some aggressive duplicate cleaners could have been causing such damage, also storing the Photos Library on an unsupported external volume, for example on a NAS:
