Wake for network access not working

I have an 27" iMac (screenshot specs attached) and I also have an M1 Macbook Air (screenshot specs attached).

I have "Wake For Network Access" checked on both computers, however if the iMac is in sleep mode, it does not appear in the Finder sidebar on the Macbook Air. I have to physically wake the iMac, and then it will appear in the sidebar of the Macbook Air, which defeats the purpose of the "Wake For Network Access" feature. Any advice?

Disable Sleep, it’s unnecessary on later Macs, all pain, no gain. To disable, set your Energy Saver settings to as shown:

Separately, avoid manual sleep, use screen lock instead or let the display switch off/auto-lock on timer. For long or overnight absences, shut.

Thanks for the response. So, is it actually supposed to work by waking from my Laptop, and it just doesn't work, and this is a work around, or is it not supposed to wake the iMac from my laptop like I thought?

I will, however disable sleep.

It’s not important - Sleep’s for older, power-hungry Macs with mechanical drives, not later ones. So, why wonder if it works or not? It’s not for later Macs period. Disabling is the correct setting, not a workaround.

While I agree with you that disabling is the correct setting, I disagree with you saying it's not important. While it might not be important to you, it is to me as I believe things should work as they are designed to work. One shouldn't spend hard earned money on a device only to find out that a feature does not work as it's supposed to.

Nevertheless, I thank you for your time and resolution as I have disabled sleep.
