HD copy of a movie not replacing the SD copy that was previously existing in iTunes.

I have a SD copy of "The Town (2010)" that was a redeemed digital copy of the film from when I purchased Bluray physical copy years ago. Recently, I have been migrating my physical library to digital, and have been utilizing Movies Anywhere to populate the libraries from various sources.

In most instances, when I purchased an HD version of a movie that I already owned in iTunes in SD, a new copy of the movie would pop up, and I would just hide the SD version from my library. However, when I purchased "The Town" in HD, it shows up on all non apple sources, but it won't show up on iTunes or Apple TV.

Could the issue be that I purchased the extended cut in HD? and that version isnt availible in iTunes? or should it still show up?

Here is the copy that I own in SD in the app. it displays as 4K in the copy, but it plays in SD and can only download in SD.

How the file info displays (showing a SD copy)

I can click on iTunes extras, and I can see a selection for Extended Cut, but it doesnt play when I click on it.

HD version availible in Movies anywhere.

Hello tfivem,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

We would recommend deleting the copy you have and attempting to download it again:

"How to redownload TV shows and movies on your Mac

  1. Open the Apple TV app.
  2. Click the Library tab.
  3. In the sidebar, click Movies or TV Shows.
  4. Hold the pointer over a movie or TV show, then click the Download button Download button. If you use Family Sharing, choose a family member's name next to Purchased to see their purchases.

Don't see the movie or TV show that you purchased?"

More details can be found here: Redownload TV shows and movies that you purchased

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Are you experiencing this with any other movies? Also, which macOS version are you currently using?

Cheers!
