Best 2.5G USB C to Ethernet Adapter for Mac Book Pro?

Hi,

To set the stage: I have a 2019 16 inch Mac Book Pro running Ventura 13.0.1.

I have ATT fiber and just upgraded to 2.0 (actually 2.5) Gig internet.

I was using an old ethernet adapter that was only capable of 1gig. I bought an Ankar 2.5gig adapter from Amazon and tried it today.

It didn't work, then worked, then didn't work and now I can't get it to work anymore.

I've isolated it down to the adapter by testing all cables, our switch, connecting directly etc... It is the adapter.

I'm guessing some adapters work better than other with the Macs.

Anyone have suggestions of 2.5G USB C to Ethernet Adapters that have been reliable with similar set ups?

Thanks in advance!

To get to the settings, you use

system Preferences > Network > Ethernet

if you don't have anything there that says Ethernet, you need to Activate the drivers by ADDing the interface to the list of Networks. Pre Ventura, there is a [+] Add button below the list of interfaces.

Then all the settings come alive. First move Ethernet TOPMOST by using the Gear Icon below the box the 'set service order' and drag Ethernet to the top of the list.

then the (advanced) button on the Ethernet pane will show you settings under its hardware pane.

Skip the auto speeding if you know what speed you want it to connect at, enter that speed. If it can't connect at the speed, it won't connect at all.

and lastly, are you sure your Router is capable of faster speeds? it is entirely possible they did not think this through and gave you a router that can't perform.

Hi Grant,

Thanks for the response.

What is "it"?

If "it" is referring to the ethernet adapter, I have no idea how to set that. It doesn't have a log in per say to be able to adjust the setting.

2) Yes, the router is a brand new router that the Att tech installed. I was with him during the whole install. I've gotten 2.6gig up and down at times and we tested it right out of the router as well.

An update to my testing of ethernet to USP-3 adapters.

I ordered two other vendors adapters. This makes a total of 3, and none of them can reliably deliver the speed from the ethernet.

I returned them all.

My final resolution

I got fed up and ordered a Mac Studio. It has a built in 10gig ethernet port and plenty of usb-3 ports along with more juice than my laptop.

I still want to be able to to use my Laptop with the 2.5gig up and down speeds, so if someone has a good solution please post.

Thanks again Grant for the reply.

Brandon
