Display monitor issue

Just connected new monitor to MacBook Pro 2020 using DP to USBc cable. While safari opens on the monitor, zoom and other programs still open on Macbook pro screen while my mouse cursor is stuck on display monitor. Can I use both the screens simultaneously and how can I move the mouse cursor between both the scenes?

if you have your displays set up as an Extended Desktop, and arranged in the same order as on your physical bench, the mouse moves freely across the artificial boundary between displays, and can drag a window partway or all the way across.


If set up differently, the mouse slams into the end of the Extended Desktop and stops:



also, if you have been using Mission Control, and have multiple "spaces" enabled, your Mac may extend that concept to "displays have separate spaces".

If that is not what you desire, disable that here:
