Unsupported file format

I had some voice notes I saved to my notes from iMessage that I deleted by mistake, when I restored my phone from a backup that contained them they now say “unsupported file format” is there a way to recover or fix that? I have tried to save them to files, I’ve tried to copy them to Dropbox to change the format, I’ve tried to send them in an email but they won’t go anywhere. I really would like to get them back

Hey Bbrown28,

How are you attempting to access the files? Are you attempting to access them in the iMessages app?

After the notes were actually deleted, were you able to check Recently Deleted in the Messages app? If not, follow the steps in section labeled "Retrieve a deleted message or conversation" here: Delete and recover messages on your iPhone or iPad. Retrieving it from there may allow you to open/save and not get the error.

Take care.

Hi Bbrown28,

While you can attach some types of files to your notes, it does not appear to specify in our support article that voice notes are listed as an option here:

"In the Notes app , you can add photos, videos, and info from other apps, such as maps, links, and documents, to a note."
