mouse keys have me locked out of my 2020 macbook air

By accident I turned on mouse keys on my 2020 Macbook Air and am now locked out because I can't enter my password. How can I fix this using the simplest option?

Hello lydiaTiger,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

These steps will help you turn it off:

"To customize, click the Info button :

  • Press the Option key five times to toggle Mouse Keys: Use your keyboard to turn Mouse Keys on or off.
  • Ignore built-in trackpad when Mouse Keys is on: Disable the trackpad on your Mac when you use Mouse Keys.
  • Initial delay: Set how quickly the pointer starts moving when you press a key.
  • Maximum speed: Set the maximum speed at which the pointer moves."

More details can be found here: Change Pointer Control settings for accessibility on Mac

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? What happens when you attempt to disable Mouse Keys?

Cheers!

Thank you. Pressing the option key five times has no effect. The mouse keys remain on, which means I cannot enter my password to gain access to the laptop. I paid a visit to the Apple store near me today and they could not solve the problem either and suggested I return it to the shop it was bought from and ask for a replacement. I spoke to a representative at the shop but instead of offering a replacement they have agreed to have it repaired under the warranty agreement. If Apple can't solve the problem then really I'm wondering who can...
