When using the iPhone's dictation in a text message, it inserts random comma punctuations into my sentences even if I did not state for a comma to be inserted. The commas being inserted are not grammatically correct, so this does not appear to be as a result of an auto correct function. This began after I upgraded to IO 16. Does anyone know why this is happening?

This was annoying me significantly as well, but I just realized you can thankfully manually turn it off by going to settings, general, keyboard and dictation and turning off auto-punctuation. I’m so glad, because it was getting on my last nerve since I used dictation so often and had to “fix” virtually everything I ever dictated.
I have been using notepad since my first iPhone, 4 or 5 I think. I use it every day, and it aggravates the **** out of me every day. It has the same bugs now as it had back then and more new ones now. A few updates ago it started often transcribing normal words into capitalized names. Then, after that it started randomly capitalizing the first letter of words everywhere. And now it’s inserting commas everywhere. I use notepad every day, and not only have they not fixed any of the bugs, or improved it, they are actively introducing new bugs. When using notepad I spend half the time transcribing and the other half fixing all the transcription errors. As I did writing this comment and removing about 20 commas. This is why this is my last iPhone.
I didn't have this problem on my iPhone 12 pro until I reset all my settings two days ago, and then I went in and turned off auto punctuation to try to stop it from happening, and it's still happening. I don't have auto correct turned on, nor do I have predictive text turned on. It's adding commas in places where they don't make sense when I dictate. I have nothing with commas in my word replacements either, so it isn't that. I have even updated to 16.3.1, and it's still doing it. When dictating this, it put a comma after auto correct. It would have been between auto correct, and turned.

Fabulous suggestion. For me, turning off auto punctuation worked. I am a former English teacher and want to do the correct pronunciation myself via dictation. Have been very irritated until now. Thank you very much!

If I speak identical phrases into Messages or the Notes app, there wind up being random commas added all over the place. They are not aligned with pauses. As I am dictating this comment, I am finding completely different behavior than exist in the aforementioned apps; I have had to fix four things in this sentence alone.
However, if I dictate precisely the same phrase into the safari tile bar, I never see the problem. And Siri seems to have little difficulty understanding the few things that Siri can actually understand.
So Apple, why are you using so many different engines for dictation? It simply makes no sense at all and it is causing millions of users a real pain.

Have you turned off Smart Punctuation? The directions have been provided.

Thank you! I reported this also to Apple and they helped me find the button to turn off autopunctuation. It worked. No more problems.
16.2 update and commas are random and often. This is a glitch in the update, apparently. Frustrating.
Go to settings. Keyboard. Unselect punctuation. Does the trick.
These problems are occurring with iOS 16.1.1 but I cannot recall if I started with a different version of iOS 16 or not.
These problems occur with all apps/features in which I use the dictation function - text messages, notes, email messages (Gmail and others), etc.
Re-starting my iPhone did not resolve this issue.
I have been having the same problem since I upgraded to iOS 16. Not sure which version I started with, but I upgraded to 16.1.2 and the problem persists. Very annoying since I dictate all my texts, emails, notes, etc.
Mine has started adding commas wherever I take a slight pause to think about the rest of the sentence. It's incredibly annoying...especially since I say "comma" wherever I actually want a comma. It would be great if there was a way to turn this off.
Yes this started with the recent update. The algorithm thinks it knows where the commas should go. And, it creates questions with random question marks.
It can’t even get basic tenses right, it sure as heck shouldn’t attempt punctuation. PLEASE TAKE THIS OFF. A misplaced comma can be a dangerous thing. Reference “Eats Shoots and Leaves”!
