Holding iPhone triggers edit Home Screen

For a while - definitely since the iOS 16 update, but possibly before that - pickup up my iPhone 13 Pro by the bottom third causes it to go into edit home screen mode. Sometimes an app or two will get deleted before I realize it. I have freakishly small hands, so I'm holding it pretty firmly. My husband, who has normal-size hands, has also had that happen occasionally.

I've searched every setting and cannot find a way to turn this off. I am not hitting any buttons - just the bottom third of the sides.

Does anyone else see this? Is there a way to turn that off?

Thank you.

Hello krez56,

You may find some available options for adjusting how the device responds to touch on this page: Adjust how iPhone responds to your touch

Adjust settings for touch-and-hold gestures
The touch-and-hold gesture reveals content previews, actions, and contextual menus. If you have trouble performing this gesture, do the following:
1. Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Touch, then tap Haptic Touch or 3D & Haptic Touch.
2. Choose the touch duration—Fast or Slow.
3. On an iPhone with 3D Touch, you can also choose the pressure needed—Light, Medium, or Firm.
4. Test the new setting on the image at the bottom of the screen.

With regards to the unintentional deleting of apps, an option that you may try would be to enable Screen Time's restrictions: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you happen to wish to provide feedback to Apple then the best place to do so will via the dedicated feedback site here: Product Feedback - Apple

Cheers.
