child Apple ID

Hi,

Recently I used my personal phone number to create my 10 year old child's Apple ID. My number is now used as my child's Apple ID. I have gotten a new phone number for him and I can't seem to change the Apple ID to his new number. Can this be done? If yes, how?

Thanks

Hello lilysen,

It sounds like you're wanting to change your child's Apple ID, right? Did you use an email account as Apple ID as well? You can follow the steps here to change your child's Apple ID:

Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

Use your mobile phone number as your Apple ID - Apple Support

"On the web

  1. Sign out of every Apple service and device that uses your Apple ID.
  2. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.
  3. In the Sign-In and Security section, click Apple ID.
  4. Enter the mobile phone number that you want to use as your Apple ID, then select Change Apple ID.
  5. A verification code is sent to you at that number. Enter the verification code from the text into the fields provided.
  6. Sign back in to all Apple services with your new Apple ID.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Sign out of every Apple service and device that uses your Apple ID, except the one you're using to change your Apple ID.
  2. Go to Settings > [your name] > Name, Phone Numbers, Email.
  3. Next to Reachable At, tap Edit.
  4. Tap Delete  next to your phone number and follow the instructions.
  5. After you enter the mobile phone number that you want to use as your Apple ID, a verification code is sent to you at that number. Enter the verification code from the text into the fields provided.
  6. Sign back in to all Apple services with your new Apple ID."

Regards.

lilysen,

Try to sign in to the Manage your Apple ID website and see if you're able. Here's a link to that site - Manage your Apple ID If you're unable to sign in with one number, test with the other. Make note of which allows you to sign in. Then, if it's not the number you're desiring, are you able to change it here?

As for the verification code, it shows in the article Use your mobile phone number as your Apple ID that -

If your new mobile phone number is already connected to your Apple ID as a Messages phone number, shared phone number, or trusted phone number, then you don't need to verify it.

Didn't get a code? In some cases, your trusted phone number can be automatically verified in the background on your iPhone. It’s one less thing to do, and your account is still protected with two-factor authentication.

Thanks.

Hi Tammer1,

Thanks for your response. I tried changing it on the iPhone itself. I am attaching the screenshots of the same. I am simply not able to change anything. In fact, the instruction I get is for me to use the old phone number (my number) to sign in to your account after saying the id has been updated! Please refer to the first image. The second image is what I get after having followed the instruction to change the id. I am at a loss.

Incidentally, I never received a verification code either in the old number or the new number.

Best,

Lilysen

Hi AnnieL2,

Thanks for your response. Here is the case: My Apple ID is my email address with which I can sign in to my Apple ID....no problem there. There is no phone number associated with my id. Why have I done this way? I feel silly saying this but I don't know. I will have to ask the me in 2014! I don't remember at all. My trusted number listed on my id is my husband's phone number. I am guessing this is because in future if I ever I need to recover etc., his phone number would be accessible to me.

Recently, I decided to give my old iPhone 7 Plus to my 10 year old child. Therefore I erased all my data and created a new Apple ID for him. I wasn't allowed to create an id using an email possibly because he is underage. At the time, I hadn't taken a phone number for him therefore I used my phone number to create his id because I was under the understanding that at a future date, I could easily change his id (my phone no.) to his new phone number. I also added him to my family sharing.

Till a few days back, I was able to sign in using his id which is my phone number. I tried to change his id to his new number and the message I got was that it could not be done. Why was this?

Anyway, now I can't sign in using his id as apple says "this id is not supported or not valid".

If at all, I need to start all over again by erasing the iPhone 7 plus, I can even do that because I feel something has gone terribly wrong somewhere and I have gone into a loop. What do you say?

And how do I go about it?

Thanks in advance.

Lilysen
