Computer is freezing on a regular basis

If I let my machine sit for long enough, like overnight, when I return to it, it will no longer respond. It will not wake up, etc. I am forced to power the machine off and reboot. Occasionally, I am able to unlock the computer with my Apple Watch, but the keyboard or trackpad will not work...they are wired to the machine, not bluetooth.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? I have tried shutting down login items, etc., but nothing is helping.

Any thoughts?

To resolve this problem I needed to take my computer to the Apple Store. There there needed to reinstall the firmware on the machine, which is not something one can do normally. The best guess is that the firmware had become corrupted during an update.

So far, the machine is working normally again.
