RAT malware

I received a email stating that a Trojan R.A.T. Malware had been installed on my device (iPhone, or iPad) and that they were recording me using my own phone and microphone. They say i have 48 hours to pay ransom, bitcoin, or information will be given to my friends via social media or email. The email came from my own email. My question is can these devices get malware being that the iOS systems are supposed to be secured? How can I go and look for this malware and clear it out?

Thanks for your answer. I was thinking this but wanted to get clarification before I completely got rid of the email. These things can be a pain in the rear and sometimes make you second guess yourself.
