Phone not ringing after update

After the recent update in early December, my phone intermittently rings - or doesn't ring... same with text messages. Sometimes I get an audible alert, sometimes not.

Yes, the off/on switch is in the correct position, and yes, my volume is all the way up. And, yes, the Do Not Disturb feature is not activated ( and really hard to find). I have had it literally in my lap and get a call...it doesn't ring, maybe it does.... about a 50/50 chance. Texts RARELY give me an audible alert now.

Talked with someone yesterday who said the update wiped out his contacts, silenced his phone, and removed his ability to get or send text messages.

What is going on? Is this yet another Apple debacle?

For odd issues that come up it may sometimes help to give the device a quick refresh by restarting it: Restart your iPhone

How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.

2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.

3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

It can also help to try disabling Bluetooth temporarily from Settings > Bluetooth, to help rule out the sound(s) being routed through a nearby accessory.

Be sure to also check other apps to see if they're having any sound-related issues as well to help isolate it down.
