A long time ago in Mac years, it was said that having too many files on your desktop would slow down your Mac. Is this true in Ventura?

I am sure that was what Apple was advising Mac users pre-OS X.

You could be right. I can't remember that far back.

I have been a Mac user since 1984 and experienced too many files on the desktop slowing down my Macs.

1985 for me and as I mentioned, I can't remember that far back. :)

Thank you for your answer regarding Ventura. Just trying to figure out why my 2019 16-inch MBP is slow.

You're welcome. There can be numerous reason a Mac could be slow. If you post an EtreCheck report that may reveal the problem.
