Chrome prevents Mac from waking up

I am running HighSierra (can't upgrade, computer too old and too many software no longer compatible with higher OS). For some time now, when it goes to sleep, my Mac won't wake up. Nothing I do will wake it. I have to do a hard reboot.

I have tried every solution found in all the various posts and web articles, including

Reset SMC

Reset NVRAM/PRAM

Boot Mac in Safe Mode

Start up Mac in Recovery Mode

None of that has solved the problem.

I've been experimenting with closing different apps before putting it to sleep to see whether there's an app that might be the cause. It seems to be that Chrome is the culprit. If I close it before putting my computer to sleep, I don't have a problem waking it up.

1) has anyone had the same problem?

2) any solution?

Thanks for any input.

Sounds like possibly an old extension running...

We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...
