Face ID stopped working iPhone 14 Pro Max iOS 16.1.2

My wife and I upgraded from iPhone 7Plus to iPhone 14 Pro Max in November 2022. Three days ago Face ID stopped working on my wife's phone (mine is still working normally). We have done 'Reset Face ID', but the front facing camera does not recognize her face, or mine. We have rebooted the phone, did not help. We upgraded from iOS 16.1 to 16.1.2, this also did not help.


I am afraid the front facing camera may be defective.


Anyone else have a similar issue?

We recommend that you try the steps here since Face ID is not working as expected: If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support


To perform the steps in the article we suggested above, click and open the link, read the subheadings below, and try each step.


1) Check for updates
2) Check your Face ID settings
3) Check that nothing is covering the TrueDepth camera
4) Make sure that your face isn't blocked
5) Make sure that you're facing the TrueDepth camera
6) Restart your device
7) Add an alternate appearance
8) Reset Face ID


The reason why we are recommending the steps above is because they will show you what to do if you need help using Face ID to unlock your iPhone.
