How do I move preferences/library for iTunes from old hard drive to new computer with Apple Music? Mainly looking to move library and also the "likes" for songs into Music.

So, the computer I'm using had my stuff on it. The HD died. I had a backup hard drive so I used that to move everything to an external HD and had been booting off of that. That was slow so I paid to have a new hard drive installed in this iMac. So I'm starting over right? So, how do I go about moving all my music from my external drive onto this new one? I mean, I can figure that out basically, but how do I go about importing the "settings" from iTunes on my other drive. ie: all the songs I have "rated" from 1 star to 5 stars in iTunes. I want to be able to import those settings for each song when I import them to this new hard drive on this computer.

See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community. If the library is working as it is on the external drive it should just be a matter of copying it to the internal drive and accessing it at the new location. You want to avoid importing anything as that loses ratings, play counts, date added, etc.

Hi there TwitchOSX,

The steps outlined in the Apple Support article Import music from a computer to Music on Mac - Apple Support discuss how to you can import music from your external drive to your Music app on your Mac.

While this will not import your previously selected ratings or other settings, it will allow you to access the music in your library.

Alternatively, if you use Apple Music or iTunes Match, you just need to sign into the Apple ID used with those services and enable Sync Library in Music. Then, your music and associated ratings and other settings should also be available on your Mac: Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices - Apple Support.
