SDR clips in HDR projects are too dark

Running FCPX 10.6.5 on my iMac with MacOS Ventura 13.0.1. Doing my first real HDR project. I have the colorspace for my library set to Wide Gamut HDR and the project to 2020 HLG as all the tutorials indicate and my HDR iPhone 14 Pro clips look perfect in FCPX. But any inserted titles, generators or SDR clips are dark. The HDR tools in the Effects have conversions from HDR to SDR, but not the other way around.

I can brighten up these elements manually using Exposure in the Color Board, but its time consuming and feels like a hack.

Am I missing something obvious? I googled the usual topics but couldn't find anything useful. I'd appreciate any help.

iMac 27″, macOS 13.0

You can apply a Color Board (or other "correction") to the SDR clip and make your adjustment, then Save Effects Preset — call it SDR to HDR or something that you find useful. Then for all the other SDR clips, you can simply select them and double click your Preset to apply the color board/whatever effect all at once. If any need any "fine tuning" the CB will already be set up.
