ipad mini keeps asking to setup even after i finish setup and log in to my icloud account

I received a pre-owned ipad mini (it's gen 1) from a friend. He erased his account and took it off his icloud, but I see cannot get past the HelloSide the bar to set up screen. It allows me to get into my icloud account and setup the wifi and the language settings but once it gets past the screen where it "updates settings", and past the terms and conditions, then it gets me back to the Helloslide bar to set up your device screen! I have tried everything, im on itunes, icloud, appleid, all loko ok. What else may I be doing wrong? (ah I tried reset too, holding home and power buttons until the apple sign shows up, no change) Thanks

Thank you very much for the welcome and yes, very reliable wifi and it was fully working as I got it from a friend of mine. In any case, the matter is closed. What happened was I had to run the recovery after connecting it to my laptop, and that got the whole thing going again and I'm finally in. Happy with the ipad itself (as good as new!), shame it's no longer supported with any updates so it's stuck on 9.3.6 and very limited software/app options. However, for my reading books and listening to music, is more than fine.

Thanks for reaching out to the community. Does the iPad connect to your reliable Wi-Fi network during the setup process? Have you tried connecting to a different Wi-Fi network? Was the iPad working without issue before you took ownership? Be sure you follow the steps in this article for setting up the iPad for use.

Thanks, it was trapped in a Hello loop. In my case, it didn't insisted on Apple pay, I skipped that when I was setting it up. But something was wrong with the way things were deleted from the previous owner (my friend isn't very techy and he didnt even know -until I told him- that he needed to delete the device from his icloud account), and it refused to move on after the Hello etc screen. Anyway. Recovery worked, see previous. Thanks much for replying, enjoy your new ipad!
