Apple TV 4K 128GB on LG TV that supports 120hz?

Hi. In a few months I'm planning to get an LG C2 OLED TV. It supports a refresh rate of 120hz. I have also been planning to buy an Apple TV 4K 128GB to connect to the LG TV.

I just read, however, that the Apple TV 4K only supports a refresh rate of 60hz. So I just want to make sure: does that mean if I use the Apple TV 4K with the LG TV that I'll be limited to 60hz?

If so, does it not make sense to get the Apple TV 4K?

Also, I know that the Apple TV 4K 128GB supports HDMI 2.1 so could it allow for 120hz refresh rates in the future with a software update?

Thanks,

Mirsky

I just connected an LG C2 55in with a new Apple TV 4K. During set-up, I saw that the format was running Dolby Vision at 60hz so I had exactly the same question. i.e. would watching fast motion sports thru AppleTV be good?

The newest Apple TV 4K maxes out at 60fps for both Dolby Vision and HDR10(+) and therefore 60hz. So, unfortunately no 120hz on AppleTV apps/programming.

it could if you enable motion smoothing. But in general, a display will/should display its source as it is. The 120hz is just an upper limit, lower values also work; in particular, for example, you could set up apple TV and your (tv) display to show you a movie in 24fps, if the movie was recorded like that and you wish to view it in that original format
