iMessage stopped working after switching to e-sim

Hey.

About a week ago I switched my SIM card from a physical one to an e-sim and since then my iMessage has not been fully working. I am still able to receive messages, but whenever I sent a person one back, it sends the message from my email address.

I noticed a few changes in my settings:

- When I go to settings > Phone, "My Number" tab is empty and unclickable.

- under Settings > iMessages (or FaceTime) > Send & Receive, it shows my email with a tick on the left and above it, there's "Primary" with a spinning wheel right next to it. Under Send & Receive box, there's a text which says "Activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again."

I'm still able to receive phone calls. The only thing that is different is that people aren't receiving iMessages or FaceTimes from my phone number. I have tried everything. Talked with my carrier, turned my phone on and off, same with facetime and imsg. The only thing that are left would basically be reseting my phone and deleting e-sim and requiring new e-sim QR code.

Do you have any other ideas how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

Hello tilc_,

If you're unable to use your phone number for iMessage after activating an eSIM, you'll want to start by checking your device settings with these steps:

Check your device settings
1. Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data or Wi-Fi network.
2. If you're using an iPhone, you need SMS messaging to activate your phone number with iMessage and FaceTime. Depending on your carrier, you might be charged for this SMS.
3. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that your time zone is set correctly.

If the issue persists, work through the remaining suggestions in this support article: If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support

If the issue persists and you're not seeing an active phone number for your iPhone in Settings, you may need to reach out to your wireless carrier for more help.

Take care.
