Blocked messages not going into trash

I have iPhone 7 Plus, IOS 15.7.1

My blocked messages are recognized as blocked but they will not automatically move to trash. I tried all of the settings recommended, including those from this community and they don’t work. Is this a known issue that Apple doesn’t intend to fix?

if I do a factory reset, then I must do a backup so I don’t lose my data. If the problem is in my data, then I just bring it back when I restore.

If I must restore, please provide specific instructions so I do it right.

Someone please help me. I’m an older guy and I don’t always understand this device.

Hi there TexasLarry,

When you block a contact in Messages, it doesn't necessarily delete the message from the contact your blocking, but prevents you from receiving future messages from that same contact or phone number. Learn more about blocking messages on iPhone here: Block, filter, and report messages on iPhone - Apple Support

To delete a conversation in Messages, you can follow these steps:

Delete a conversation
1. Touch and hold the conversation to open an options menu.
2. Tap Delete .
3. Tap Delete once more to confirm.

Take care.

Thank you. It is very kind of you to reply. The problem is that, even though the sender is blocked, I continue to receive messages from the sender. iPhone does mark it as blocked by a small red circle with a slash through it. However, the message isn't transferred to the trash. There are settings you can use to accomplish this, but they are not working on my phone. I've read several responses that say the same things, but it still doesn't work. Interestingly, my outlook email on my laptop sends these messages to the junk mail file.

TexasLarry,

The best thing to do is to continue to mark those emails as junk if you'd like to see those messages go there in the future. The Mail app will learn from this behavior and eventually begin placing those emails there.

For more info on reducing junk mail on Mac, also check out: Reduce junk mail in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Specifically follow the steps here from the above resource:

Mark messages as junk or not junk
1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, select a message.
2. Do one of the following:
• If Mail incorrectly marked the message as junk: Click Move to Inbox in the message banner or click the Not Junk button  in the Mail toolbar (or use the Touch Bar). Mail moves the message to your Inbox.
• If Mail failed to mark the message as junk: Click the Junk button  in the Mail toolbar (or use the Touch Bar). Mail moves the message to the Junk mailbox.
3. Each time you confirm a message as junk or not junk, the junk mail filter improves so Mail can better identify junk mail.

We hope this helps out.

Take care!
