Shutting down Photos

I have been exporting photos to an external HD then deleting from photos. Now when I try to force quit I'm warned I might lose unsaved data. Does this mean the delete process is still ongoing?

Photos may still be needing some time to save the changes you made to the Photos Library. It is keeping changes cached, and to writing everything immediately to the Photos Library. And after deleting photos, Photo needs to update the smart albums, Places, People, Memories. I would not force quit Photos immediately, after you finished working with it. It might leave the library in an inconsistent state. Unless you need to shut down the Mac urgently, let it run. If Photos can still not be quit, use force quit. But you may need to repair the library after force quitting. If you are using iCloud Photos, a repair can result in a new upload of all photos to iCloud, which may take a long time for a large library.

You do have a backup copy of your Photos Library on an external volume, do you?
