Hello!

As long as you're safe online, and use an up-to-date web browser (which for OS X El Capitan is Chrome), you'll be fine.

However, depending on the model of iMac you have, you may be able to upgrade to a newer version of macOS. Please go to the Apple menu  (top left) > About This Mac. What is the exact year and model of your iMac?

Upgrade to a New Mac:

If you can no longer get any updates, then I'd say it's time to consider upgrading to a much newer Mac --particularly a model made to operate with still-supported macOS versions. macOS support typically goes for 7 years, and then compatibility for your device ceases to be supported.
