iPhone 4 Black Screen will not reboot

I picked up my 32gig last Friday and already the screen is going black during use and won't reboot / restore anything. After about 30 minutes the screen comes back, then goes again after about 10 minutes of use. Could this be an overheating issue? I need help on this one.

I've also had the same problem. About a week ago I updated the phone to 4.3.2, and the screen has been black ever since. I can hear tones, the screen is responding to touch and yes when a bright light is shone onto the screen you can faintly see the icons - JUST.

I am getting very frustrated as I'm sure you all are as well.

Considering the problem has been happening since 2010 I doubt it's a software problem - I agree with Tweak18D = it's a hardware problem and a problem with the backlight on the LCD.

I also have the same problem after upgrade to iOS 4.3.2. in fact i have 2 problems encountered

1) sometime my iphone go into black screen. i can use the standby button to wake up my password screen however once i login, it is still the black screen.

2) the home button freeze and never able to bring me back to the home screen. however whenever a phone call come in, the phone call screen still pop up for me to accept the call.

both issue will reset when i plug my iphone to the USB cable and turn on my PC. i strongly believe this is not hardware issue. in fact it is an iOS issue. seem like when the iphone plug into USB, certain activity will run to clean and remove the halted processes hence the system refreshed.

another finding, before the issue (1) and (2) come, my home button will fail first to wake up the iphone (standby button still possible). i use heavily the "mail" feature with 5 account created including 1 exhange account. previously i have lot of problem with my WinMobile 5 when my mailbox size grow up. could it be the same problem with iOS?

This is the second Mac product I have purchased and the 2nd time I have have had operating problems.

The first was an iPhone 3Gs and now an iPhone 4

I too have just experienced the black screen. Had to " hard reset " as you Mac people put it. Sorry I am a PC guy and always have had Blackberry's and the like. Never had this problem with any of them. I will be replacing the Apple product with something more reliable perhaps a PC based product. Good luck Apple but I am out.

I've owned my iphone 4s since november 2011. It has worked fine until 2 days ago, when it has sporadically not responded to waking up, instead I get a black lit screen. You can see that power has been delivered to the screen, but it's only black. Siri responds to holding the home buttun for a few seconds. The hard restart (home+power for 10 seconds) seems to work only sporadically, but this has temporarily resolved the problem for a few hours, then it recurs.

I had exactly the same problem today for the first time. My Iphone is only a month old, and today it didn't want to start anymore. Connected to the PC, an Iphone device still showed up in the windows explorer and I could even see the pictures on the phone from the PC, but the phone did not show in iTunes. And the screen stays black.

The only way to turn it back to life was to hold the POWER and HOME button for a while.

The phone has been handled very carefully and is in virtually new condition. Very troubling that this happens already after 1 month of use.

I had the same problem of iphone 4 going blank and home button unresponsive untill you reboot the device by holding the home button and power button,

But nobody has noticed when the home button becomes unresponsive and the screen is black, at this moment you try calling your iphone number from a different phone and you hear the ring but iphone does not ring, after rebooting you dont see the missed call as well in the recent call history, so we will not be able to know if we have missed any important calls at this moment of coma iphone goes into, apple has to seriously look into this issue immediately.

I had the exact same issue. It happened only a couple of times with my 3GS but now it happens daily with my 2 month old 4GS. It started several days ago and at different times during the day it just goes black and the home button is inactive. I tried plugging it in the first time thinking it needed a recharge and when I went to get it the next morning it was still black and hadn't charged at all. (It turneed out there was still half a charge on it.) Finally, after playing with it and holding down the home and power buttons - at first only for a few seconds with no results - then for about 10 seconds - it did come back on. But every day now it blacks out at one time or another. I too am worried regarding important calls because I tried calling during black out and there was no life from the phone. Am I going to end up having to watch it and then revive it throughout the day. It seems that this problem has gone on for a while as I read through the other posts. Is Apple doing anything about this?
