password not accepted to update to Ventura

Trying to update from Monterey to Ventura the password used to boot the computer not accepted. I have rebooted several times, password works fine but not accepted for update.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.5

I had the same problem. This worked for me.



  1. Press cmd + Spacebar to bring up Spotlight and search for Terminal
  2. sudo softwareupdate -i -a -R 
  3. -i Install
  4. -a All appropriate updates
  5. -R Automatically restart (or shut down) if required to complete installation)


Note: Password does not show when using terminal.
