Ah, a document scanner. Those are much more plentiful. Canon doesn't even offer photo scanners anymore, so I didn't mention them. In that case…

I clicked on a few to check to see if Ventura was supported. Those I checked do. It's probably a pretty good bet all of the current products do, but I'd still check to be sure.
Canon USA has three such scanners on their lead page, but none of them list support for Ventura. HP doesn't seem to have any document scanners.
Brother calls them desktop scanners…

Quite a range to pick from, but I didn't check compatibility with Ventura.

The four photo scanners Epson currently produces all work in Ventura.

I can't be sure about discontinued models, such as the Perfection V700.
Plustek has a variety of flatbed scanners, but even the letter size models have a very low optical resolution. About 1200.
The Epson V600 has an optical resolution of 6400. The downside is the 6400's D-Max is only 3.4. This is fine for reflective scans, but not good enough for film. To get quality scans from film, you'd have to spring for the V850, which has a D-Max of 4.0. The latter is what I use, coupled with the pro version of SilverFast.
Basically, there aren't many good (quality) flatbed scanners to pick from.
Thank you very much Kurt.
Perhaps I should have written that I am looking for a basic scanner for docs that I can plug in and use
without searching for drivers etc.
Mac OS 13 seems to be still out of bounds for Canon, for example...
Thanks again for your extremely useful answer.
You're welcome. 🙂
