blue dots when trying to draw a circle in markup

Trying to draw on a photo using Mark Up in Photos on my MacBook Pro (OS 13.0.1). When I click on the Draw symbol (2nd from left) & then try to draw a circle using my trackpad, nothing happens. I release & get 4 blue dots in the shape of a square. No idea what's up with that, no matter what I try, I can't draw a plain black circle around an object in my picture.

If I choose orange

Then I get the sketch I made. That's what you want, I think-- though maybe not an orange cat...
