How to migrate to a new iPad except some Apps?

Hello,

I've bought a new iPad and I want to copy most of apps and content EXCEPT some specific apps/games that I want to keep in the old iPad to my kids. I don't want to migrate those specific apps/games to the new iPad.

Both iPads will use the same AppleID.

Quick Start moves everything and I assume it disables my kids apps and its history in the old iPad, which is a situation I want to avoid.

How to do this?

Old iPad: 5th Generation

New iPad: 9th Generation

Both 64 bits CPU.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Available transfer methods are all-or-nothing. You cannot selectively transfer Apps or associated data. If you need to selectively move files, you must individually move/copy files using AirDrop, iCloud or iTunes (using a PC or Mac computer). However, selective deletion of unwanted Apps, after performing the transfer, will remove both the App Game) and its associated data from the device.

These support pages should get you started with setup of your new iPad - and the methods of transferring your data from old to new iPad:

Set up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If the donor iPad, from which you are transferring your data precedes iOS12.4, QuickStart will not be available.

“Transfer” is rather a misnomer. In reality, your data and setup is merely cloned to the new device. Nothing is moved or removed from the original device.

An alternative is to restore either an iCloud or iTunes backup to the new device:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

When you are ready, the best procedure for preparing you old device for reuse by a different user can be found here:

Thanks for the quick reply!

What if I backup only selected apps to iCloud and then setup manually the new iPad from that backup copy on iCloud?

Will selected applications work simultaneous on both iPad?

Does old iPad apps, not in the backup (not copied), keep working normally in the old iPad?

(remember both iPads will still use the same AppleID).

Thanks a lot for your help.

Apps are not directly transferred between devices. A record of App installed on the source/donor iPad is transferred to the target/new iPad - and this record is used to install compatible Apps that remain available on the new device.

Changing the selected App data included in your iCloud backup only affects the data included in the iCloud backup. To reiterate, Apps themselves are not included in iCloud or iTunes backups.

To be clear, data and setup is merely cloned to the new device. Nothing is moved or removed from the original device.
