Apple M1 - 32:9 Monitor - USB-C HDMI Adapter - No Resolution Available

Hello

I have an Ultrawide Monitor attached to a Macbook Pro M1.

Every time i boot up and connect the USB-C/HDMI adapter, the image is stretched by 2 and under display preferences are no resolutions available.

The same behaviour on Macbook Air M2.

The workaround is always as follows:

  • Start the Mac
  • Connect HDMI
  • Wait until stretched image shows (See Screenshot 1)
  • Disconnect HDMI
  • Connect HDMI (Now there are resolutions available under preferences) (See Screenshot 2)
  • Close the lid

Is there a solution to this problem?

Samsung C49RG9 appears to be a 5120 by 1440 display with HDMI-2 and DisplayPort inputs.

Unless you are REALLY into self-abuse, do not use HDMI for this connection. HDMI was invented for consumer TV sets, and is stretched far beyond it natural abilities to run 4K at 30, and just gets stupid when pushed higher.
