Reader View Safari iOS

Even even though my system settings for Safari have automatic reader view turned off, Safari consistently uses reader view automatically each and every time I visit a webpage. Any suggestions how to get this fixed?

Hi phyllisfromme,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

Have you restarted your iPhone recently? This can often resolve minor issues. Here's how to Restart your iPhone.

Next, we have some steps to share from larger iPhone User Guide to double-check that Reader is switched off correctly. You can find them here: Hide ads and distractions in Safari on iPhone.

"Show Reader

Reader formats a webpage to show just the relevant text and images.

Tap the Page Settings button, then tap Show Reader.

To return to the full page, tap the Page Settings button, then tap Hide Reader.

Note: If Show Reader is dimmed, Reader isn’t available for that page.

Automatically use Reader for a website

  1. On a supported website, tap the Page Settings button, then tap Website Settings.
  2. Turn on Use Reader Automatically.

Note: To automatically use Reader for all websites that support it, go to Settings  > Safari > Reader."

If the issue is continuing after this, make sure your iPhone is backed up and updated to iOS 16.2 which recently came out. Here's how to Update your iPhone or iPad.

Then if the issue remains, contact Apple Support for a deeper dive.

Have a fantastic day!
