First few seconds of screen recordings are getting cut out

I am currently on 2021 MacBook Pro 16" with macOS Ventura 13.0.1 installed. I am having an issue where the first few seconds of my screen recordings are cut out every time I try to make a screen recording. It appears to be approximately the first 3 seconds.

Hey there RaviC01,

To help isolate the issue, can you try testing to see if this happens in multiple apps/screens or only when using a specific application?

You can start in safe mode on your Mac to test if the issue is possibly related to start up or software issues. Use the steps below to start in safe mode, then test for any issues:

Apple silicon
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor
1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

RaviC01,

Thanks for verifying that for us. At the time, we suggest you update to macOS Ventura 13.1. If this issue is related to the software, completing this step could correct the behavior:

Use Software Update

Before installing new software, it's a good idea to back up your Mac.

  1. From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen:
    • Choose System Settings. Then click General in the sidebar, and Software Update on the right.
    • Or choose System Preferences. Then click Software Update.

2. If Software Update finds new software, click the Update Now or Upgrade Now button to install it.

Software Update windowe

3. Enter your administrator password, if asked. During installation, your Mac might restart, and you might see a progress bar or blank screen several times.

If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then no new software is currently available for your Mac model. Software Update shows only updates and upgrades that are compatible with your Mac.

Hey RaviC01,

Not all software, but software that has changes made during incremental updates will be updated. Jumping back a bit, how are you going about creating your screen recordings? For example, are you using the Screenshot toolbar, or are you opening QuickTime Player and creating the screen recording from there? If you haven't tried with the toolbar as of yet, learn How to record the screen on your Mac here and give it a try to see if there is a difference in the behavior if you try both methods.

Be well.
