Weird Noise when using Wacom and Preview
Hi! I have a 16" 2021 MBP (purchased in June 2022) that is running OS 13.0.1 and is now making an odd buzzing noise. (Check video) Any suggestions for what to do?https://youtu.be/krwZ3stbd_o

Wacom sent me an RMA, but a new tablet arrived before I sent the first one back. The new one created the same noise. I updated to the latest IOS and the issue is now gone on the new one. (I will unpack and test the first one). it was Ventura 13.1 that was installed that didn’t play well with the tablet. I updated to 13.2.1.

Greetings mjblanco,
Thanks for the video. It does seem like it only occurs when the pen touches the Wacom Tablet.
When an accessory is not communicating with a Mac as expected, then we recommend checking for a driver or firmware update from the manufacturer of the accessory, as many times that helps to clear up the unexpected behavior. Reach out to the manufacturer for assistance with checking for a driver update for the tablet: Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support
You can try another cable (if possible) and another port on the Mac to isolate the behavior. If the noise goes away, then it was the cable or the Mac port causing the behavior.
You can also test the tablet on another computer. If the noise follows the tablet, then it's not isolated to the computer.
Let us know if that helps.
Kind regards.
A restart helped me! Had the noise and discoverd that its a high frequent version of the system sound called "Buup". I occurs whenever the pen approaches the tablet. When the pen touches the tablet the sounds stoped.
However, it stops when i restarted my Laptop.
My Setup:
2023 Macbook Pro M2 16"
I updated to the latest iOS and the issue is fixed for me now (now running 13.2.1)
Hi all, I reported the issue to Wacom. After much to-ing and fro-ing they also saw the same issue. I’m awaiting their reply. I’d advise you contact their customer services In The meantime - they have been very responsive
Hello mjblanco,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you need help with issues with noises when using your MacBook. We completely understand why you'd reach out, and are happy to help.
Does this occur when the tablet is not connected? This will help us isolate the issue.
This may also be a fan noise. The following article has info on this and has steps on how to fix it.
About fans and fan noise in your Apple product
Please have a look and let us know if this helps!
Cheers!
I'm not sure if this was a fix or not, but I also had connection problems with my wacom, so I got a new coonection cable that is USB-C on both terminals. (The original has USB-C and USB-B and I had to use a dongle.) It's working without a problem now.
I haven't resolved it entirely. I got a new USB cable and that helped, but it will still pop up with that buzzing every once in a while and the only thing I can do is unplug it and reboot the computer.
No, though it started when I used preview on jpgs, it now only happens when I use the digital pen for my Wacom tablet. The pen works, but the buzzing sound is really irritating.
Even more of a mystery, it doesn't do it all the time.
I'm having the same issue with a Wacom Intuous tablet (wacom wants a video of the issue)- mine happens whether I use it wired or blue-tooth - I tried updating to the latest driver, and ditching settings, but the problem persists.
Has anyone resolved this issue? I have two different tablets. One Intuos and one bamboo and both are having the same issue. It makes the buzzing sound via the speaker whether or not I connect via bluetooth or USB cable with an adaptor for the Macbook Pro 16". It was working fine and then suddenly the issue started. If I restart, the issue will stop for a short amount of time before resuming again. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and restarting the computer. Nothing is resolving the problem.
Yes for me I have to restart my brand new mac which is not great! I bought a new Mac because I had to restart all the time because my tablet would disconnect. Now it stays connected and makes a weird sound. Can't win! Hopfully they resolve this!
Hi, Did you find a solution? I seem to be having the same issue with my Wacom tablet and new Mac.
Thanks
Thanks for your reply. I've now discovered the problem has occurred since I updated the software - anyway Wacom so far seem really helpful so hopefully I'll get resolved soon!
Me too. Brand-new MacBook Pro and into tablet makes the buzzing in pen or touch mode in any app. If it is a fan issue , I'm scared to damage the machine.
thanks
