I don't know my Apple ID attached to my activation lock

I forgot my device password, so I went into recovery assistant and it says my Mac is linked to a different Apple ID.

Well that is a BIG problem. Activation Lock is an anti-theft feature.

Try logging into your Apple ID account on iCloud.com and under Find My see if the device in question is listed. If it is not listed then it is associated with a different Apple ID. Try logging into older email addresses you might have used in the past. If you have another Apple ID account, you should be able to use Forgot Password to reset the account.

If the device belonged to someone else they will have to remove the device from their iCloud account via the iCloud website. Once that is done, the Activation Lock prompt will disappear.
