„Find My“ App shows wrong location for friends, while my devices show the right one.

Now for over several months my friends get always the same wrong location, but on my devices I see always the right location, no matter what App I am using. The location my friends are seeing is exact and „now“ and I have internet connection as well.

I tried several things, like restarting the App and the device; checking the settings for the App, location services and iCloud; doing updates for the App as well for the System; even doing the reset for „location and privacy“, but the issue still remained.

What is interesting is, that sometimes for a split of a second the right location appears, but then seems to be „overwritten“ by the wrong one.

I assume the problem lies somewhere in iCloud and not the phone, since my position can appear on other devices.

I am open to any suggestions and thank in advance for help

I've contacted Apple Support, they made the proposition to deactivate and reactivate the app, but I was still on the wrong place. However, after I removed my friends on "Find My" and added them again, it suddendly worked! I did press on "stop sharing my location" before, but apparantely not on "remove ...".

So pressing "stop sharing my location" and add friends back is the solution I guess.

I've seen that some others have the same problem. Can someone let me know, if it just was the removing part or you need to do something else too (like deactivating the App).

Thanks for your effort in helping me.

Hey Bananensaft,

If you have more than one Apple device, make sure you're sharing the location from the right one. Here's how: Find people and share your location with Find My - Apple Support

Change your sharing device

To change the device that you're sharing your location from, open Find My on the device from which you want to share. Select the Me tab, then choose Use this [device] as My Location.

Let us know if that helps.

Take care!

Hi TammyW_03

Thanks for your advice, but I already checked that. I also changed the device that shares the location briefly, but that didn‘t do anything too.

Maybe I should add, that I was once there, where the App believes me to be at all the time. The same day, when I was there, it started to show this (wrong) location. On this day I was also changing the time settings for 1 minute or so, but I changed it back afterwards (it is now set to „automatically“ again and shows the right time and date).

I still think it has something to do with iCloud and the transmission of information to other friends, however I don‘t know how that actually works. As said, sometimes the right location shows up on friends devices for a few seconds and then changes back to the wrong one immediately with „now“ and a precise location. I have the impression that it somehow gets „overwritten“ by the wrong one.

Thanks for helping and again, open to any suggestions
